2. “Smithereens” (Episode Two)
“Smithereens” is one of the only Black Mirror episodes that is set in modern day (“National Anthem” is the only other one that comes to mind). Given how technologically advanced we are these days, Black Mirror still makes that work by giving us this really impactful and pointed crime thriller (pay attention to the way technology advances the case, it’s pretty genius). With some great performances from Topher Grace and Sherlock’s Andrew Scott, “Smithereens” is a reminder of just how intense this show can be when it wants to be.
