Con Preview: EarpExpo, a New Orleans Wynonna Earp Event

The Canada-based cult hit SyFy show Wynonna Earp has been on hiatus from production of its much-anticipated fourth season, with the show’s production company IDW running into financing problems. However, as fans continue to express support through the social media #FightforWynonna campaign and through buying billboard ad space in Times Square and elsewhere—they can take solace in at least one thing: Wynonna Earp con season is kicking off as scheduled.

EarpExpo is the first up for cons dedicated solely to Wynonna Earp—a supernatural western with all the camp of an old Batman film, more heavy issue-tackling fearlessness than a network drama, and perhaps the best LGBTQ romance representation ever put on TV.

EarpExpo will take place in New Orleans June 14-16 at the Downtown Marriott Convention Center. Fans, or Earpers, as community members are called, from around the world will descend on the Big Easy for a weekend of photo ops and meet & greets with the show’s stars and creators, plus parties and generally all sorts of unforgettable bonding moments centered around the love of the show.

Here’s a breakdown of what event organizer EarpExpo LLC has planned:

Things technically begin Thursday night, June 13, with a check-in registration party at Bourbon Cowboy Blazing Saddles, from 7-10 p.m.

On Friday comes two more parties. Jill Andrews, the singer of the show’s theme song “Tell That Devil,” will perform a special ticketed concert at the convention center from 8-8:45 p.m. Afterward, the convention center room will transform into a NOLA-level club for the aptly named Bourbon and Beignets party. Cue the sexy pink fog.

The panel subjects and full-weekend schedule have not yet been released, but two workshops have been announced (both require additional tickets secondary to the convention passes): the visual-focused “From Script to Screen” workshop with story artist Lora Innes; and the “How to Write a Show Worth Fighting For” workshop with Emily Andras, Wynonna Earp’s creator, executive producer and head writer.

The stars who will be attending and available for photo ops, selfies, and meet & greets at various times throughout the weekend are: Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp), Kat Barrell (Sheriff Nicole Haught), Michael Eklund (Bobo Del Rey), Varun Saranga (Jeremy Chetri), Dani Kind (Mercedes Gardner), Meghan Heffern (Beth Gardner), and Kate Drummond (Agent Lucado).

Also throughout the weekend, vendors will be on site selling an array of Wynonna Earp merchandise—from clothes, to jewelry, patches, art, and more—plus other favorite sci-fi show/movie and Pride-themed wares.

Tickets for EarpExpo sold out a few months ago but fans are continually selling, or even giving away (because Earpers are insanely generous like that) tickets on social media, particularly Twitter, so just keep an eye out for posts mentioning #Earpers and/or #EarpExpo, and you might yet snag your way in.

Can’t make EarpExpo? There’s plenty of other Wynonna Earp-specific cons slated for 2019: EhCon (or Earper Homestead) Canada happening in Toronto August 9, EarperCon UK in London September 13, Shorty’s in Milan October 12, Earp-a-palooza in St. Louis, and Next Stop: Purgatory in Paris November 2.
