WWE Fastlane 2019: The Final Stop Before WrestleMania

wwe

Fastlane was a fun ride! Now it's nonstop to the Showcase of the Immortals

WWE Fastlane is named appropriately as it marks the final stretch of road on the way to WrestleMania. This years event saw the final battle for The Shield (for now), a major heel turn for Shane McMahon, Becky Lynch get inserted into the Women's title match at Mania and much more.

As each week of Raw and SmackDown makes us question the direction of the WWE and the shows get more and more boring, The PPV's seem to deliver more times than not. Here's a quick recap with my thoughts on the event:

The Uso's defeated Shane McMahon and The Miz. The Uso's continue to prove that they are the best tag team working in the WWE and maybe even the world. This match kicked off the show with great action and some drama at the end to set up a big match at WrestleMania. After Miz got pinned, Shane turned on him and went heel as we all expected. I prefer Miz as the bad guy but he's been one for so long that I guess him going the good guy route is a nice change. However, he's played the babyface role before and from my perspective, it didn't work. Miz vs Shane at Mania will be a featured match and could start Miz on a path to the WWE title depending on who is champion after the big event.

The Bar defeated Kofi Kingston. So, Kofi was supposed to be in the main event challenging Daniel Bryan for the WWE title. Vince McMahon had different plans and took Kofi out of that match. After being told that the McMahons wanted to see him in the office, The New Day pleaded their case to put Kofi back in the match. Vince agreed to make it a triple threat and said the match is next. Kofi went to the ring only to find out Vince screwed him over and put him into a handicap match against Sheamus and Cesaro. Kofi lost but this was just to get the fans to rally behind Kofi even more for a big push for WrestleMania to get a title match. The fans were cheering for him all night so it might just work and we may see Kofi crowned champion on the grandest stage.

Daniel Bryan defeated Kevin Owens and Mustafa Ali. Speaking of the WWE Championship, Kevin Owens was the man that replaced Kofi in the title match. Vince did promise a triple threat match and we got one but it wasn't Kofi, it was Mustafa Ali. Mustafa continues to be placed in main event slots which is great because he's fun to watch. This match was awesome and all three wrestlers put on a clinic. Bryan keeps his title as he will probably defend against Kofi at Mania. As for Ali and Owens? How about a one on one spectacle at Mania? Could steal the show.

Becky Lynch defeated Charlotte Flair by DQ. This one was expected to go Becky's way as she is destined to win the Raw Women's title at WrestleMania. She kept up with the leg injury and went through the match with it. The match ended when Ronda Rousey attacked Lynch to make sure she would win by DQ and get into the match. We are set up now for what should be an amazing main event. Becky will of course win and Ronda is probably done afterward. They're seemingly real rivalry has been intriguing and with the crowd fully behind Lynch, it's gonna be interesting to see Ronda's heel turn continue to unfold.

The Shield defeated Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and Bobby Lashley. The Shield reunited on Raw after Roman made his comeback and this match was set as the final time we would see the trio team up (for now). This was the best match of the night and of course, The Shield got the victory. We know Seth Rollins will challenge Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania for the Universal title. Dean Ambrose's future is in question with reports of him leaving the WWE. As for Roman, early reports are for him to go against Baron Corbin. I hope not. I'm sure there is something they can do that would be a little bit better. No disrespect of to Corbin but we've seen it many times before. If I were to pick an opponent for Roman it would be Drew McIntyre. Yea, we've seen that one before too but it has a better story to tell for both superstars futures.

The rest of the card saw:

Asuka defeated Mandy Rose to retain the Smackdown Women's title.

Samoa Joe defeated Rey Mysterio, Andrade, and R-Truth to retain the United States title.

The Revival defeated Aleister & Ricochet and Bobby Roode & Chad Gable to retain the Raw tag team titles.

Bayley & Sasha Banks defeated Nia Jax & Tamina to retain the Women's tag team titles.

From top to bottom each made was great and had a purpose for future storylines. I always wonder if WWE can keep up the momentum of a good show on the shows during the week. We will see on Raw and SmackDown.
