'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' will use James Gunn's script

James Gunn may have been fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but Disney still plans on using the script that he wrote for the film.

In speaking to MTV News about The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Chris Pratt confirmed that Marvel’s third Guardians of the Galaxy film will be based off the script Gunn originally penned for the film.

Gunn, who directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, was fired off the project a number of months ago when a series of inappropriate tweets from 2008 resurfaced online.

“Yeah, I have (read James Gunn’s script),” Pratt said. “It’s off the chain. It’s so good.”

“Well, I love James,” he added when asked whether there were any mixed emotions towards Gunn’s firing. “I’m loyal to James and I love him so much. And we’re going to deliver the movie, we’re gonna give fans what they deserve. I think it’s in the nature of the Guardians of the Galaxyto come together and get the job done. And that’s what we’ll do.”

The big question is whether or not Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer in the films, feels the same way. Bautista was the most outspoken about Gunn’s firing, to the point where he threatened not to come back to the franchise at one point if Gunn wasn’t rehired.

James Gunn, meanwhile, has moved on to other things as Warner Brothers recently hired him to direct Suicide Squad 2, which now has the working title of The Suicide Squad.

The other big question in all of this is who will now Disney get to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3, as Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi — who was considered the favorite to take over the franchise — recently confirmed he has no interest in tackling this project (which we don’t blame him for in the slightest).

The fella over there with the hella good hair. Movies and TV are my jam, and the fact that I get to write about them on a regular basis is the bees knees.
