Royal Rumble is my favorite event of the year in the WWE calendar. It's one hour (give or take) of 30 superstars competing for the opportunity to main event WrestleMania. It's the one event that fans look forward to the most as anticipation grows for Mania. Two superstars start and every ninety seconds (give or take) another comes out until all thirty have entered. There are surprise debuts, grand returns, and sometimes a fun skit like with Elias and Jeff Jarrett.

The best part about this year's Rumble and last years is now we get two Rumble matches in one night. One for the men and one for the women. This year's show was great from top to bottom with every match delivering top-notch action and two Rumble match winners that we wanted to see win and were deserving to win. Let's take a look at the card and the best moments of the event.

Let's give a quick shout out to the pre-show matches. Shinsuke Nakamura won back the United States title in a good match against Rusev. Bobby Roode and Chad Gable defeated a makeshift team of Scott Dawson and Rezar. Buddy Murphy retained the Cruiserweight title with a win over Akira Tozawa, Hideo Itami, and Kalisto in a fatal four-way. In my opinion, this one stole the show and proved why this match and future cruiserweight title matches need to be featured on the main card.

Asuka defeated Becky Lynch. The Smackdown Women's title was on the line here with Asuka getting the clean submission win in a great match. I love Asuka getting to look strong in the win and Becky losing doesn't hurt her as she is destined for big things as we would see later on.

Ronda Rousey defeated Sasha Banks. Ronda retained the Raw Women's title in an ok match against The Boss. Ronda sometimes looks a little wild in the ring but the story for this would come at the end when Sasha would put up the four horsewomen sign in Ronda's face. Perhaps a sign of things to come.

Shane McMahon and The Miz defeated The Bar. Shane and Miz would take the Smackdown Tag Team title away from Cesaro and Sheamus in what was a very entertaining match. As a fan, I'm not mad at Shane getting to be a champion here as he has proven time and again that he is a capable performer who puts it all on the line every time. Should be fun to see where this one goes.

Daniel Bryan defeated A.J. Styles. Anytime these two go one on one we expect nothing less than a masterpiece. Their rivalry over the past few months has been a good one with this match being the best of their series so far. Erick Rowan would interfere and help Bryan win so this one is not over yet. Looks like the Bludgeon Brothers gimmick is over with Bryan getting a new stable soon.

Brock Lesnar defeated Finn Balor. In what was a true David vs Goliath matchup, this match was the best on the main card. Lesnar always looks strong but Finn truly shined even in losing this Universal title match. Say what you want about Brock but he sold like a champ for Balor which shows that he can help elevate those who work with him. I really wanted to see Finn's demon alter ego in this match but it didn't happen. Lesnar continued the assault after the win so maybe we get a rematch. Think about it...The Demon vs The Beast. I can't wait to see that one.

Becky Lynch wins the Women's Royal Rumble. This is the result every fan wanted. Becky wasn't officially in the match until an injury to Lana prevented her from competing. Becky begged to take her spot and got the loudest reaction of the night when she won. Arguably the most popular superstar on the roster is now headed to WrestleMania in the main event. Of course, she'll go after Ronda Rousey which will make for a historic confrontation on the grandest stage.

Seth Rollins wins the Men's Royal Rumble. Another result we wanted and to be honest, who didn't think he would win. It makes the most sense and he is the one guy that should go into WrestleMania and win the Universal title. Rollins vs Lesnar makes the most sense as we need a Universal champion that will appear weekly. I'm not a Lesnar hater, but it's time to put that belt on someone who will defend regularly.

All in all, Royal Rumble 2019 was a great four-hour event (five if you include the pre-show) and not a boring moment all night. It's time to take the road to WrestleMania.
