Chris Brown was arrested in Paris, France on allegations of aggravated rape and drug violations.
CNN’s “French judicial source” says Brown was detained on Monday with his bodyguard and one other unknown person. Investigators so far are determining if preliminary charges should be filed.
According to Associated Press, the woman who filed the rape complaint met Brown and his companions the night of January 15-16 at French club Le Crystal. Afterward, they went to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in central Paris.
Currently, investigators have not filed charges against Brown, though they have a full two days to deliberate that decision. Brown’s representatives have not commented on the incident, or why he was in Paris to begin with.
This is nowhere near Brown’s first run-in with the law. In 2009, he was charged with felony assault for attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna. He received five years’ probation and community service. In 2013, he and his bodyguard were charged with felony assault in Washington, DC, though this charge was reduced in court the next day. In April 2017, he was involved with an altercation with a photographer outside a nightclub who took his picture without permission.
Since his legal troubles, Brown has suffered very little career-oriented and social repercussions. He won a Grammy in 2011, and six of his albums have reached platinum status. His Instagram retains a whopping 50 million followers.
