Mortal Kombat is back with a bloody trailer for the next chapter of the franchise
Mortal Kombat is coming back as the cinematic trailer for the eleventh installment of the series premiered last week. Mortal Kombat is one of the longest running video game franchise in history. It is also one of the most successful, especially after a reboot of sorts in 2011.
Mortal Kombat is also one of the most controversial games because of the amount of violence and gore displayed. Based on the trailer, we are sure to see more of that martial arts violence in all its brutal glory.
It starts with the ruins of a courtyard and a battle between the two most popular Mortal Kombat characters, Raiden and Scorpion. The fight is hard-hitting and bloody with both warriors using their respective weapons until Raiden gets the upper hand and using his lightning charge to make Scorpions head explode.
After Raiden has won, he turns around to see...Scorpion. Except this is the classic original version. Scorpion turns himself into a body of flames and kills Raiden. We then see a mysterious woman touching an hourglass before the trailer ends.
Mortal Kombat has evolved from a basic fighting game into a story-driven campaign. Based on what we see in the new trailer my guess is this new story could be based on time travel. It would explain the appearance of a classic Scorpion and the hourglass that is flowing in reverse.
The franchise has become known now for including characters from outside of the franchise. Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhies, and The Predator are just a few to make an appearance in a Mortal Kombat game. Of course, nobody has been revealed yet to make a special appearance. With MKX including so many characters, I don't know where to begin guessing on who we will see do battle in the MK realms.
