At the MTV European Music Awards on Sunday, K-pop powerhouse BTS took home the Biggest Fans award.
BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, won the award thanks to their fans, who call themselves the BTS army. In addition to winning the world over with hits like “Blood Sweat & Tears” and more recently “Fake Love,” they won the love of celebrities on the red carpet as well.
Said electro-pop singer Halsey, "They're the most charming talented guys, they work so hard and fans love them for that because they're so dedicated."
The seven-member South Korean group went up against American artists Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. While Swift, Gomez and Mendes have all been nominated (and Mendes having won the award in 2017), this is the first time BTS was nominated for the Biggest Fans award, and they ended up winning.
Recently, BTS made history with their third and latest full album, Love Yourself: Tear, which was the first K-pop album to debut at #1 on Billboard. BTS also appeared on the cover of Time, which called them “Next Generation Leaders.” They have seen an astronomical rise in fame since their debut in 2013, snatching several Best New Artist awards.
Congratulations, boys! From where I’m standing, there’s no “Fake Love” at all.
