Outlander cast panel at New York Comic Con offered many surprises

Outlander fans were in for many good surprises while seated in the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden for 2018 New York Comic Con.

First, Diana Gabaldon, who was not on the roster, showed up.  Next, the audience got to get a sneak peek at season 4, episode one "America the Beautiful" that will not air for the masses until Nov. 4 on Starz.

Fun fact from Diana: "One colonist out of every three was from Scotland."

The Hulu Theater looked packed at its 5600 person capacity.  Everyone there was excited to enjoy the panel and the good vibes were palpable.  Some people were dressed in perfect Outlander-inspired costumes, but even those in civies had the right spirit to enjoy the event.

Moderator Lola Ogunnaike, host of Entertainment Weekly the Show and People Now was soon joined by Diana Gabaldon and she got a huge round of applause.  The happiness only continued to grow as the room went dark for the first public viewing of the next episode of Outlander.

So, what happened in the show?  It is set in Colonial America. Jamie and Claire have perfect chemistry as usual. The episode has a lot of humor and adventure and we meet two important characters, but that’s all the spoilers you will get, at least for now.

Unfortunately, the full trailer is not available for the general public yet, but the opening credits with an American theme woven into it has been released.

The panel that included showrunner Ron Moore, producer Maril Davis, Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Sam Heughan (Jamie), Sophie Skelton (Brianna), Richard Rankin (Roger) joined Galbaldon and Lola Ogunnaike.

The initial questions showed their camaraderie and general joy of being involved in this project. They played a short game called Outlander, Outlandish or Out of Bounds.  The answerer needed to say whether the question was, in fact, true about Outlander, was not true about anything or could provide too many spoilers, both on and off camera.

Some notable questions were, "Is Sam Heughan being considered to play James Bond?"

The answer was Out of Bounds.

Ron Moore was asked if we would see any more time travelers?

He responded with Outlander.

Yay, a straight answer.  That was something cool.

In the last 10 minutes, the floor was opened to the audience.

One person almost ruined the feel-good vibes in the room by asking a question tinged with politics.  Ron Moore and the rest of the cast gracefully side-stepped it.

Another woman asked about how the opening theme changes each season to reflect the location and while the team answered it well, it would have been better if Bear McCreary was on-hand to answer the question directly.

From way out in the audience, someone asked "Will we see Murtaugh?' To which Lola Ogunnaike said that question was on her list too, but everyone remained tight-lipped about our favorite godfather.

The official trailer will likely release soon and Stars and Celebs will show it to you as soon as it is available.

Outlander returns on Starz on November 4.
