Citizen Watch unveiled eight of their Marvel timepieces at New York Comic Con, designed after their most popular superheroes.
The elegant designs were inspired by Black Panther, Spider-Man, who each were graced with two elegant designs, while Captain America and the Hulk each got one apiece. Rounding out the showcase was one timepiece dedicated to the Avengers and another to all Marvel superheroes.
"Marvel is thrilled to partner with Citizen to give fans a piece of the Marvel Universe to take with them wherever they go," said Dan Cruz, Vice President, Digital Media & Integrated Sponsorships at Marvel.
The reveal was hosted by actor and comedian Josh Peck. The watches will be available for sale in spring 2019. Check out the designs below:
The designs, starting from the top left, are all heroes, the first Spider-Man timepiece, the two Black Panther pieces, the second Spider-Man piece, Avengers, Captain America, and the Hulk.
They look like absolutely gorgeous collector’s items, though their price tag will reportedly hover in the $275 - $625 range. Still, those Black Panther timepieces look so elegant, and the Hulk watch looks classy, which is, I think, the first time anyone has described the Hulk as classy.
I think the Captain America watch is the most packed with references, though. If you look closely, you can make out the camouflage strap of Cap’s watch, a reference to his service during World War II. The face also offers a translation, for lack of a better word, to military time. And of course, there’s Cap’s shield on the face.
This watch has the most utilitarian feel to it—not that that’s a bad thing. All I’m saying is that Cap isn’t really a flashy guy, and that if, somewhere in the Marvel universe, there’s a watchmaker whose grandfather was saved by Captain America during WWII, this watch looks like a thank-you gift he would wear.
