First look at Rambo 5, brought to you by Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone

Rambo 5 is chugging along, and star Sylvester Stallone has shared our first look at the return of the survivalist extraordinaire, who is set to take on a Mexican drug cartel.

Stallone has traded his army dugs for a cowboy hat and spurs, and even shared a photograph of himself riding a horse. Rambo 5, which Stallone co-wrote with Matt Cirulnick, reveals the action hero lives on a ranch now. This installment will reportedly focus on Rambo’s quest to save the daughter of his friend, kidnapped by the cartel.

The path to Rambo 5 has been a long one, and occasionally petered into dead ends. In 2009, Stallone announced a fifth installment titled Rambo V: The Savage Hunt, which underwent significant rewrites and was then put on hold due to Stallone’s involvement in The Expendables 2.

This installment was re-announced in May of this year. No word on a release date yet, though we’re likely looking at a fall 2019 premiere. The last time we saw the Vietnam vet was in 2008, with a fourth installment in the series titled simply Rambo. It received mixed reviews, though the main character remains very popular to this day.

To be as well-loved as you once were in 1982, when Rambo first appeared, fittingly enough, in First Blood, is saying something. Expectations are high for this latest installment, which is said to be Rambo’s last adventure.
