Syfy series Krypton cast Emmett Scanlan to play DC comics intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo.
Irish actor Emmett Scanlan will play one of DC's most iconic anti-hero's Lobo. The character will be recurring on the second season of the Superman prequel drama Krypton.
Scanlan is commonly known for his role in the British TV soap opera Hollyoaks. He also had a minor role in the Marvel space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, which starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and Michael Rooker.
Scanlan was most recently featured in Netflix's Safe which stars Michael C. Hall, Amy James-Kelly and Amanda Abbington. He is also credited for In the Flesh, Constantine and A.D.: The Bible Continues.
In the comics, Lobo is an intergalactic bounty hunter who takes pleasure in murder and mayhem. Lobo killed off his entire civilization, leaving him the last person of his race. This should be no surprise considering his name means "he who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it" in his native tongue.
Lobo's powers include super strength, invulnerability, super speed, healing factor, alien technology, combat skills and weapons expertise. He is popularly known for riding a rocket-fueled motorcycle.
Warner Bros. has been considering bringing the Lobo character to the big screen. Big time actors such as Will Smith, Dwayne Johnson, Guy Richie and Brad Peyton have all been previously connected with the IP. A film featuring the intergalactic bounty hunter has been in various stages of development for 15 years.
Bringing Lobo to the small screen is a big deal. The Superman prequel drama Krypton has already brought some prominent DC characters to the small screen such as Brainiac, Doomsday and Adam Strange.
The second season of Krypton will expand beyond Kandor to other planets. The Superman prequel will also further dive into the origins of Brainiac.
A return date for Krypton has not yet been determined.
