Aladdin comes to life in first teaser
In recent years, Disney has been adapting their iconic fairy-tale stories into live adaptations. With releases such as Cinderella and the box office hit Beauty and the Beast, the Walt Disney Pictures production house has no plans of slowing down.
The live-action Aladdin film is one of three remakes that will be arriving in 2019. Tim Burton's Dumbo, Guy Ritchie's Aladdin and Jon Favreau's The Lion King are also scheduled to be released in 2019.
This live-action Aladdin film is the latest to receive a trailer.
Although the trailer does not reveal much, we do see the city of mystery and enchantment Agrabah, Cave of Wonders and the wisecracking parrot Iago.
The trailer begins with dessert and four individuals riding on Camels. Then a bird flies overhead reveling the city of Agrabah. After, we see a parrot (Iago) fly towards the Cave of Wonders. Suddenly, a menacing voice pronounces, “Only one may enter here,” roars Cave of Wonders, as a shadowy figure enters. “One whose worth lies far within. A diamond in the rough.”
A shadowy figure slowly approaches the cave. The cave is filled with a miscellaneous amount of treasures, and then our protagonist Aladdin (Mena Massoud) is revealed grabbing a golden lamp.
The film stars Billy Magnussen (Prince Anders), Will Smith (Genie), Naomi Scott (Jasmine), Nasim Pedrad (Dalia), Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Marwan Kenzari (Jafar), Numan Acar (Hakim) and more.
The is directed by Guy Ritchie. According to Disney, “Ritchie brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah,” The film is co-written by by John August and Ritchie.
Disney's Aladdin will be in theaters May 24, 2019.
