Ariana Grande has revealed her song for the upcoming NBC Halloween special, A Very Wicked Halloween, and it promises to be breathtaking.
Grande posted a photo on Instagram of a script of the televised concert, which will celebrate fifteen years of the Broadway musical Wicked. The photo includes the lyrics to “The Wizard and I.” Very briefly, the song is about main character Elphaba’s desire to meet the Wizard of Oz and become beloved by Ozians.
Listen to it and tell me that its sweeping vocals aren’t a perfect fit for Grande’s voice!
In the post, Grande elaborates about her love for the musical: “honored to be included in this celebration of 15 years of my favorite musical of all time ? wouldn’t miss it for the whole universe.”
Grande will perform alongside Adam Lambert and original Broadway cast members Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, as well as other current and former cast members.
So far, other performers are saying mum about the setlist, but we can make a few educated guesses. Chenoweth will likely dazzle and delight with Glinda’s solo number “Popular,” and she and Menzel will (hopefully) perform “Defying Gravity,” the ultra-powerful act one closer. I’m thinking Lambert will either sing “Dancing Through Life” or provide half of the duet for “As Long As You’re Mine,” singing the part of bonehead heartthrob Fiyero.
The concert airs Monday, Oct. 29.
Truly, congratulations to Wicked for fifteen years on Broadway. It’s heartwarming to see the celebratory concert in the hands of Grande, who has her own love of the show. Here’s to fifteen more.
