Dick Grayson (Brent Thwaites) and Jason Todd (Curran Walters) come face to face in new exclusive Titans photos.
Back in March, rumors surfaced that the Cape Crusaders second sidekick would make an appearance in DC Universes Titans. However, exclusive photos from IGN show the two Robins facing off.
Curran Walters will portray the first live-action version of Jason Todd. The characters' only other appearance was in the animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010).
Jason Todd has always been a controversial character in DC comics. Todd replaced Batman's first sidekick Dick Grayson, the first Robin, who was a fan favorite. In 1988 fans voted to kill off the character because of his violent nature. However, he would return as an anti-hero under the popular alias Red Hood.
The Dick Grayson version of Robin is also in the series. The photos depict a controversial tone between the present and former Robin.
In a recent interview, Titans showrunner Greg Walker describes the relationship between the two Robins. He states, "What I really love about [Jason] as a character is the unbridled sense of self that he has - there’s a lack of... maybe self-awareness, but for sure self-consciousness in terms of how he comports himself and how he moves through the world," Walker explained. "He’s completely seemingly unaffected by darkness - he kind of embraces it or walks right through it. He’s a breath of fresh air and that’s what I love about him, he’s got a punk rock, no-holds-barred attitude that’s massively unburdened. There’s a lot of energy that comes with that."
In the Titans series, Dick Grayson is a police detective who is no longer the Cape Crusaders sidekick. However, Grayson is brought back into the crime-fighting scene after crossing paths with a young troubled girl named Rachel. The face to face meeting between the two Robins may cause a conflict between the sidekicks.
The Titans series premieres October 12 on the new DC Universe streaming service.
