The Swamp Thing series, will which stream exclusively on the DC Universe streaming service, reportedly cast their main actor.
Earlier this year, during a live-stream from DC Entertainment, they announced their new streaming service DC Universe. The service would include shows and films from their catalog and original content. One of the shows they announced was Swamp Thing and they may have cast their main actor.
Derek Mears has been cast to play the creature of vegetation Swamp thing. Commonly known for his roles on Friday the 13th (2009), Predators (2010) and Men in Black II (2002); Mears is no stranger to the Horror and Science fiction genre.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Mears will only play monster persona and not his human persona Dr. Alec Holland. The casting of Mears should not be a shocker to film/television fans due to his considerable work involving prosthetics.
Australian film producer, screenwriter and film director James Wan is producing the series. He is commonly known for directing horror films such as Saw (2004), Insidious (2010) and The Conjuring (2013). Wan also directed the blockbuster Furious 7 (2015) and the upcoming Aquaman (2018) film.
The series is reportedly depicted as ultra-violent, scary with a mature rating.
Also cast in the series are Crystal Reed as Abigail Arcane and Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne. Crystal Reed is known for her roles in Teen Wolf (2011-2016) and Gotham (2017-2018). Maria Sten had a minor role in the movie Straight Outta Compton (2015).
The Swamp Thing series will a 13 episode first season. Swamp Thing will premiere in 2019.
