Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse slams Asif Kapadia’s film after Oscar win

Documentary filmmaker Asif Kapadia won the Best Documentary Feature Oscar for his film about Amy Winehouse, Amy. But instead of celebrating the win for a film that provides a serious portrait of his daughter, Mitch Winehouse continued his crusade against the film.

After the Oscar-win, Mitch sent out two Tweets denouncing the movie.

“Always proud of my baby. Amy will not get an Oscar though. Just Asif Kapadia. That is what this is all about… Asif. He’s fooled everybody,” Mitch wrote. “I am not changing my stance just because film won Oscar. It’s a negative, spiteful and misleading portrayal of Amy. We will fix this.”

Although Kapadia has said that he had the full support of Winehouse’s family while making the film, Mitch began slamming the movie before its debut at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. He later vowed to make his own film about his daughter.

“We’re going to invite everyone that’s spoken on the other film and we’re not going to edit it, like they’ve edited me, and we’re going to tell the truth about Amy’s life because this is not,” Mitch said during a TV interview in July 2015 about his own film.

Amy follows the life and career of Winehouse, who died in 2011 at the age of 27.
