Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are hoping the chemistry the developed while shooting The Other Guys four years ago is still there when they reunite for a new project. The two will star in Paramount’s Daddy’s Home.
The story finds Ferrell as a radio executive hoping to get close to his wife’s two children. Wahlberg will star as their real father, a freeloader who disrupts Ferrell’s attempts. Sean Anders, who just directed Horrible Bosses 2, has been picked to direct, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
News of the Gary Sanchez production first surfaced in June on Deadline. That site now reports that the project finally got moving once Red Granite (Dumb and Dumber To, The Wolf Of Wall Street) stepped up as a co-financier.
Executive producers will be Red Granite’s Riza Aziz, Joey McFarland and David Koplan. Brian Burns wrote the original screenplay, which was also worked on by Anders, John Morris, Chris Henchy, Etan Cohen and Ferrell’s frequent collaborator Adam McKay.
McKay’s The Other Guys was big hit for Sony in 2010, grossing $119 million domestically and $51 million overseas. Hopefully for Paramount and Red Granite, Daddy’s Home will do just as well.
Ferrell was recently seen in Anchorman 2, while Wahlberg stars in the upcoming The Gambler for Paramount.
